What Is Laminate?
Laminate flooring has come a long way from your grandmother’s kitchen. Laminate is a cost-effective, durable solution for homeowners looking to mimic the appearance of hardwood, stone, or tile without the expense. Made by layering a high-resolution image on a fiberboard core and sealing it with protective melamine resin, it's easy to install, low-maintenance, and resistant to wear, scratches, and fading. With a wide variety of styles, colors, and textures available, laminate flooring is an ideal, versatile choice for high-traffic areas, combining practicality with aesthetic appeal.
- Choose from a variety of colors and styles to mimic the look of real hardwood like pine, maple, cherry and oak.
- There are several finishing options, high-gloss or embossed to distressed and white washed.
- The laminate thickness determines how much more resistant to impact and how much quieter the floor is when walked on. Laminate flooring is sold from 6 to 12 mm in thickness and is measured from the base to the top of the board, not including the underlay.
Installation & Maintenance
Laminate flooring can be installed over existing floors, like tile, concrete or wood.
We recommend home flooring do-it-yourselfers buy close to 10 percent more than you anticipate needing, to account for cuts.If you prefer the installation to be left to the professionals, we can help! The installation professionals and contractors at Caruso's Floors are local, licensed, insured and undergo a thorough background screening process.
- Cleaning is really easy, all you need is a damp cloth to clean up spills. It is important to blot up as soon as they happen and not to allow liquids to stand on the floor for a long duration of time.
- Do not wet mop the floor or use steam cleaners. Steam mops use heated water that forces steam onto the surface of the floor. The joints in between the laminate planks lock together nicely but they are not waterproof.
- To prevent the accumulation of dirt simply sweep, dust or vacuum with the hard floor attachment. For tough spots like makeup, paint or markers, use nail polish remover on a clean white cloth, followed by a damp cloth to wipe up any leftover residue.
